Book Review – EVE, by Anna Carey

Eve (Eve Trilogy Series #1)

What’s it about? Eve has lived in a protected all-girls school since the Plague killed her mother and most of humanity. She thinks she is about to graduate and move to secondary school when she learns the horrific truth of her training – she and the other girls will be used as breeding machines for rich couples in the City of Sand. Eve runs away into the frightening forest filled with rabid dogs and gangs of roaming wild men who would tear Eve apart if they found her. Califia, the haven for runaway orphans, is her only hope. When she meets Caleb, a sweet runaway from the boys’ labor camps, Eve thinks she might have a chance at real happiness. But the soldiers are closing in on her, ready to drag her back to the City of Sand for a life of breeding. Can she get to Califia in time?

Should you read it? This is an exciting and well-paced adventure story that fans of Albin’s Crewel will enjoy. The futuristic setting is believable, sad and seems all-too-possible. Carey’s writing is clean and heartbreaking at times. I’m picking up the next two books this week!
