Divergent – The Movie!

Okay, unless you’re living under a rock you’ve been hearing all the hype about the new Divergent movie. Actually, I did talk to a group of people recently who didn’t really know what the movie was about, were not planning on seeing it, and were not interested in the books. I backed away very, very slowly, holding my copy of Divergent over my heart as a shield.

Anyway, strange people aside, the Divergent movie is all any of us YA book geeks can talk about. Not since the Hunger Games have we been whipped into such a frenzy. If you haven’t read the books, you really should. Check out my review!

Anywho, my husband and I were fortunate enough that my parents offered to watch the heir as we went to the opening weekend of the movie. What can I say? I loved it.

You can stop your fake gasps now, I know you’re not surprised.

The casting was great, though at first I was wary of Theo as Four. I can only picture him as Pamuk from Downtown Abbey, because I’m that kind of hard-core Downtown fan that remembers even small-time characters who only appeared on screen once. But once I saw him in the film, I was convinced. I thought the movie did the books justice, striking a nice balance of staying true to the book while keeping the pacing of the film tense and exciting. Both Four and Tris are suitably pretty, though Tris is noticeably prettier than the descriptions in the book. It’s Hollywood, of course 😉

So head down to the local cinema, grab a bath-tub sized bowl of popcorn, and enjoy a drama full of hot young twenty-somethings pretending to be teenagers. It really was a great movie. I can’t wait to buy the DVD and watch it seventeen more times.
