Hi all, and welcome to my first book review. Normally, I don’t read this type of fiction. There’s more texting than epic battles here, so it’s not really my thing. My mother-in-law gave it to me for Christmas, so I finally decided to read it.

What is it about? The Lying Game is about a foster girl named Emma, who one day discovers she has a long lost twin. When Emma travels to meet Sutton, she’s trying to find a better life. She’s turning eighteen, and no longer can be in the foster system. Sutton lives a charmed life with wealthy parents and a Facebook page any teen would be jealous of. Emma hopes that somehow, Sutton can help her have a nicer life, too.

But, Sutton never shows. Sutton’s friends do, however, and after a frenzied text from her no-show sister, Emma has no choice but to go along and assume the identity of Sutton.

Things get even more weird when Sutton never shows up, and Emma receives a note, reading, “Sutton’s dead. Tell no one. Keep playing along…or you’re next.”

So the book goes, with Emma trying to assume the life of Sutton the debutante while also attempting to solve the mystery of her murder.

Review: Fun. I’m more of a dystopic future/heavy moral themes kinda gal, so this book was a light, but entertaining, read. The teenaged girl angst, the catty remarks – everything was spot on. At times I felt like I was back in highschool, remembering all the awful things girls would say to one another.

Ah, memories. Anyway, the narration is really interesting. The view of the book is third-person limited. And I mean, really third-person limited. You are following Emma around with the spirit of her supposedly dead twin sister, Sutton. Sutton can see everything Emma does, and tells you about it. I found that really interesting. It was like having a spirit guide walking me through the story. It was a nice touch that Sutton’s spirit couldn’t really remember her life, either, so we all learned about her together.

This teen murder mystery rates well in my book for a fun beach read. Thanks for the book, L!

Read it? Yes. It’s especially good if you are looking for a quick vacation book.
